Once we commit to a full-day of hiking the options become endless. This is a fact that attracts many of those who move to the area and allows for a lifetime of exploration. For those just visiting, choosing which hike to do can be overwhelming. To help narrow it down we have put a few of our favorites down here with short descriptions (in order of what we think is easiest to most challenging), but please reach out if there is something specific you would like to do! Click ‘BOOK NOW’ and put which you would like in the comments.
Some popular hikes include:
- Ute Trail (4mi RT flat): This is a great all-day adventure for the whole family. We begin way up above tree line on Trail Ridge Road and explore the first few miles of the Ute Trail through the alpine tundra. Humans have used this trail for thousands of years and we will discuss some of this rich history. This is our favorite hike for families and those who don’t want to hike very far but still want a mountain experience. We can also explore some of the short hikes off of Trail Ridge and see some of the most impressive views in the lower 48!
- Odessa Gorge (9mi with 1,600’ of gain and 3,000’ of loss): Odessa Gorge is a stunning point to point hike which explores nearly every biome of RMNP. The first few miles are uphill, but once we reach the tundra under Flattop Mountain, we follow the trail gently downhill through the vast and impressive Odessa Gorge. In order to socially distance on this hike KMAC will provide transportation between the trailheads.
- Sky Pond (8mi RT with 2,200’ gain): Our most popular hike! It is an out and back hike that challenges most hikers, but pays off with amazing alpine lakes nestled into rocky gorges. While reaching Sky Pond is definitely challenging for most hikers, we love this hike as we pass many lakes and waterfalls along the way, so no matter how far you make it you will have an amazing experience.
- Mt Ida (9mi RT with 2,400’ gain): Mt Ida is a staff and local’s favorite and a real gem of a hike. After a challenging mile we reach a low angled ridge which feels like a sidewalk to the sky, taking us deep into one of the most rugged areas of the whole Park.
- Andrews Glacier Adventure (8.5mi RT with 3,200’ gain): This is a more challenging hike than the others and is perfect for the adventurous family or group who wants a unique and special adventure. We will hike up Loch Vale to the base of Andrews Glacier where we will learn the basics of ice ax and crampon use. We will then ascent the glacier to the Continental Divide.
