The Katherine Bricker Kent Memorial Scholarship

Katherine (Katie) Bricker Kent founded the Kent Mountain Adventure Center in 1986 with her husband Harry Kent. She passed away at her childhood home in Whitehall, Maryland.

Katie was a world class marathon runner having competed in 3 Olympic Marathon Trials and averaging 3 marathons a year since giving birth to her son Owen in 1992. Mothering and running a business did not slow her down. On the contrary, she had renewed energy in developing innovative programs for kids. She could see the care that children needed in this world, and she put in the time to have KMAC fill that need.

Katie never gave up on any child. She challenged her students to try their best. And when they were done giving their all, she would embrace them in her arms, making sure they knew they were loved and respected.

From KMAC’s beginning Katie was insistent on making it possible for any student to participate regardless of the family financial situation. Her mission of helping kids will live on through this scholarship fund.

Katie Bricker Kent was an inspiration to us all. We will remember her positive attitude towards life, and her always-cheerful mood. She ran her race with strength and grace, but finished too soon.
